Questions about staying at Lundskógur

The practical things guests usually want to know before they arrive. If your question is not here, email us at villanorth@villanorth.is.

The house

Yes. Lundskógur has its own sunken hot tub on the terrace, facing the Fnjóská river and the valley. When you arrive, the hot tub is prepared for you, steamy and warm. Please do not press any hot tub settings on the control panel, as this would drain the hot tub. It refills itself with hot water and adjusts the temperature automatically. The only important thing is to cover it up every time after your relaxing bath.

Privacy and quiet. The house sits in the Lundskógur woods with views over Fnjóskadalur and the Fnjóská, a private hot tub and nothing but birds, sheep and the river to hear, while Akureyri's restaurants, shops and services are about 25 minutes away by car.

140 m² of living space across two floors, with a 110 m² terrace. The ceiling in the open kitchen, dining and living area rises to more than 5 metres.

Everything you need to cook for the whole group. There are Miele cooking appliances, a dishwasher and wine cooler, a Liebherr fridge freezer, a Nespresso Vertuo and a filter coffee machine, an air fryer, rice cooker and waffle iron, and pantry basics such as coffee, tea, oil, salt and pepper. The dining table seats seven.

Yes. A touchscreen controls the lighting and the temperature. Please do not press any hot tub settings on the panel, as this would drain the hot tub; it refills and heats itself.

Bedrooms and who it suits

Four bedrooms, for up to seven guests. Upstairs is a bedroom with a king-size bed, and downstairs are two bedrooms with queen-size beds and a single room. Beside the upstairs bedroom is a low side room with two single beds and a cot, just right for parents who want their children close by, or for friends having a private pyjama party. It does not add to the seven guests.

One and a half, both downstairs: a bathroom with shower and toilet, and a separate toilet with its own basin. There is no bathroom on the upper floor.

Yes. A family has the whole house to itself, with bedrooms on both floors, a big kitchen and dining table, and space outdoors. A cot and a high chair are ready for you if you ask for them.

Of course, and a cot and a high chair are ready for you if you ask for them. It is good to know before you come that the house is made for relaxing rather than childproofed: a staircase leads to the upper floor, and the hot tub on the terrace has a cover that does not lock. With a grown-up close by on the stairs and around the terrace, little ones can enjoy it as much as you do.

Couples treating themselves to a romantic stay with real privacy, families who want a home entirely to themselves, friends who want time together and space to retreat to, and couples travelling together, with a private bedroom each and places to gather. The house sleeps up to seven.

For the summer, around three months ahead is a good rule, especially if your dates are fixed. Plans made later can still work out, as some of our guests book just a few weeks before they arrive, so it is always worth checking the calendar.

The cancellation terms are shown on the booking page before you pay.

Check-in is from 4 pm and check-out is by 11 am.

Getting here

About 21 km to the town centre, or around 25 minutes by car. The house is in Lundskógur in Fnjóskadalur, on the far side of the Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel from Akureyri, so the drive does not cross the Víkurskarð mountain pass.

About 22 km, around 25 minutes by car through the Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel. Taxis wait at the airport whenever flights are due in, and BSO Taxis in Akureyri take bookings ahead.

For a car, one trip costs 2,216 kr (2026 prices), and each direction counts as a trip. Pay by card at the self-service kiosks on either side of the tunnel, or online at veggjald.is or tunnel.is within 24 hours before or after you drive through. Unpaid, the bill goes to the vehicle's registered keeper, which for a rental car is the rental company, and most rental companies then charge it to you with a sizeable fee on top. If you will drive into Akureyri often, an account with a 10-trip package brings each trip down to 1,599 kr.

Our map pin shows exactly where the house is, but the house and its access road are new and do not yet appear on Google Maps, and Google's route to the pin takes a wrong turn on the last stretch. For the drive, please follow the written directions in your arrival message rather than a map app or car GPS. Coming from Akureyri, turn right towards Vaglaskógur as soon as you leave the tunnel. After about 5 minutes, cross the bridge on your left and turn right, then follow that road for about 7 minutes. The arrival message describes the last turn.

In Akureyri, about 25 minutes away, where the nearest supermarkets and fuel stations are. It is worth shopping on the way in; the kitchen already has basics such as coffee, tea, oil, salt and pepper.
